Busyness is not the same thing as effectiveness. In fact, constant busyness may actually be the enemy of true effectiveness.
Why is that? Because making your mark—having an effect—on the world around you is not possible without intentionality, reflection, and goal-setting. When we fill our lives to the brim and we have no margin left, what are the first things to go? Intentionality, reflection, and goal-setting.
True success is only achieved when we begin to pour ourselves out in the service of others. When we become “too busy” for people, we undermine our own effectiveness.
Are we so busy bushwhacking (because it’s what we’ve always done), that we won’t take a moment to notice the pathway of effectiveness that stands ready to be trod?
