The Chair (from the archive)

Why do lion tamers use the tools they do?  I mean the whip makes sense, but why a chair or a stool?

I read somewhere that a chair can be very confusing for a lion.  The lion is biologically programmed to have laser-like focus on one thing.  He is a predator, designed to spot, track, and kill.  If you stick a chair in his face, he all-of-a-sudden has four things to focus on instead of one.

It’s forced multitasking.

You see where I’m going with this?

As a leader, you are designed and honed by God to be focused on one thing at a time; maximizing your impact in that moment.  Your family, that task, that conversation, that event, that project.  They all deserve your undivided attention.

You can only give your undivided attention to one thing at a time.  Multitasking is a myth.

We are rendered next to useless by our distraction-laden, fragmented world.

The new world of social networking and social media is a big huge chair in your face.  A useful chair, yes, but one that must be batted away from time to time so you can focus on what REALLY matters.

Time to kill the chair and unleash your predator focus.
